The Villages- Nancy Jo (Stanley)Wickstrom, 68, passed away on Friday, January 24, 2014, surrounded by her treasured family.
Born on Aug. 20, 1945 in Madison,WI, Nancy graduated from Madison West High School and earned a teaching degree at UW-Oshkosh. She married her soul mate, Richard (Wick) Wickstrom on 12/18/71. She was an art teacher in Madison, WI and Charlotte, NC and named North Carolina Middle School art teacher of the year, a prestigious recognition of her devotion to both teaching and art. An accomplished artist and highly respected among peers, her colorful art won numerous awards. She was especially proud to be named artis tof the month in The Villages. Friends jokingly referred to her as “Weekly Wickstrom” as she was constantly featured in the local newspaper.
As a member of Hope Lutheran Church, Visual Arts Association, Village Art League and many craft clubs, Nancy enjoyed life to the fullest! She was a multi-talented artist who specialized in collage, abstract and watercolor. In addition, she was a diehard Packers and Badgers fan, loved to spoil her dogs, and enjoyed long walks- especially on the beach. She loved dancing in the kitchen to her favorite “hip” music. Nancy also loved to shop and was not too happy about her recent $0 credit card balance! Nancy and her husband retired early and traveled extensively in the U.S. and abroad. They had recently returned from a memorable river boat cruise in Europe. Above all, she was adored by everyone who knew her, especially her husband. Nancy was his princess!
She is survived by her loving husband, Richard(Wick) Wickstrom of 42 years; sister Sandy (Al Kallal) Stanley;step-brother Jim(Sandy) Stanley; sister-in-laws Rosalie(Attila) Tamasy and Diane Wickstrom; cousin Cheryl(Greg) Hoffman; nieces and nephews John(Carrie)Wickstrom, Ann(Kevin) Lemke, Mike(Jenny) Wickstrom, Kathy(Scott) Craig, Chris(Julie Hughes) Manz, David(Kathleen Browne) Tamasy, Julianne Tamasy,Steven(David Aronstein) Tamasy, Suzanne(Jamie Collins) Tamasy; many great-nieces and nephews; and her precious dog, Biscuit.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents Betty Jane and Emerson Stanley, step-brother John Stanley, brother-in-law,Warren Wickstrom, Aunt Millie and Uncle Happy Woolever, Uncle Paul Kubitz and her cherished dogs Mogey, Frisco and Putter.
A memorial service to honor Nancy’s life will be held at Hope Lutheran Church, corner of Morse Blvd and CR466, The Villages, at 11:00 am on Monday, January 27, 2014. Pastor Marcus Pera will preside. Visitors will be received beginning at 10:00am. A luncheon will follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Villagers for Hospice, Inc., 601 Casa Bella, The Villages, FL 32162. We are so grateful to the staff at The Villages Hospice House for their loving and compassionate care.
“Nancy, you painted our life with color, happiness, love and joy each and every day. We love you and miss you. You will live forever in our hearts and never be forgotten!”
