Paradise Stamp Club Bus Trip

Stamping Bus Trip- Nonmembers
Leave the driving to us and come along for a day of fun and stamp shopping. The Rubber Stamping Advanced Workshop of The Villages is sponsoring a bus trip to Sparkle and Sprinkle Store in Ruskin and Violettes Scrapbook Store in Lakeland on January 24, 2013, from 8:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M.. The cost of the bus trip will be $20. Lunch will be on your own at nearby McDonalds, Kentucky Fried Chicken, a pizza/sub shop or a cold lunch you bring. The schedule for the day is as follows:
8:00 Leave Laural Manor parking lot from in front of the swimming pool
10:00 Arrive at Sparkle and Sprinkle Store in Ruskin, FL for shopping and lunch
1:00 Leave Ruskin for Lakeland
2:00 Arrive at Violette’s Scrapbook Store on the south side of Lakeland
4:00 Leave Violette’s for home
6:00 Arrive back at Laural Manor
The day promises to be a lot of fun shopping, watching stamping videos on route, enjoying friends, and making new friends. Both stores will be offering a 10% discount on all purchases. Owners of both stores also promise to have interesting demos of new products and techniques. You are welcome to take pictures.
Sparkle and Sprinkle is a unique store that does internet business all over the globe. They make their own embossing powders and glitters. You will also be able to watch them make their own line of rubber stamps. They also carry a wide variety of other stamping supplies. However, their selection of paper is limited. Margaret, the owner of Sparkle and Sprinkle, recommends that you check out their website at www.sparklensprinkle.com before you come. If there are items you will want to buy the day of the trip, email her with the item name, number and your name. If it is a stamp set, indicate whether you want just plain rubber or cling cushioned cut out stamps. That way they will be sure to have them available and put aside for you. When looking at their website, if you click on one of their stamp sets you will see many card ideas using that set.
Violette’s is a large scrapbook/stamping store with a wide variety of specialty papers, ribbons, stamps, and other supplies. It is one of the larger stamping stores in Florida. Enjoy browsing, shopping, and getting ideas.
The bus company is allowing us to have food and drinks on the bus, however, we have to be very careful. Please do not litter. They do not allow glass containers. All liquids need to be in a container that has a screw top. We will be cleaning the bus before we leave. If it is not clean when we leave, there will be an additional cleaning charge. We also ask for the comfort of all on the bus, that you do not wear perfume.
Below is a registration form that needs to be sent to LaVerne Thelen, 1903 Cordero Ct., The Villages, FL 32159. Registration is complete only after she has received your registration form and $20. Payment may be by check made out to LaVerne Thelen or in cash. Please have one registration form for each person registering. If you have any questions, please call or email Barb Nass, trip chairperson, before December 18 at 751-4587 or bnass3133@embarqmail.com. After registering, if for some reason you are unable to make the trip, please let Barb Nass know after Jan. 6. It will be up to the participant to find a replacement. There will be no refunds. We may have a waiting list from which to use for contacts as a replacement.
We look forward to a fun-filled bus trip with all of our stamping friends. You’ll be sure to learn a few new things either from the examples at the stores, demonstrations, videos on the bus, or from other participants.
Sincerely,
Barb Nass, trip chairperson
(352) 751- 4587

They need a plain pillar candle, any size and they need to bring ranger alcohol inks (refills bottles). Two to three colors to drip down the candle. Bring a piece of foil to sit the candle on. They dry fast. Yes I did test them and lit mine and it didn't catch fire. Bring a paper bag to put it in. A freshly painted one might adhere to plastic bags.

For the shaving cream project you will need to bring glossy paper. 8 1/2 x 11 cut in half and bring both pieces. Also bring some paper towels. She will have everything else.

2.  2 strips of card stock  (to match the card, the Christmas card above I used green cardstock) 1 1/4 inch x 4 1/4 inch (it is best to wait until the card is made to cut this in case it needs to be adjusted.
3.  2 strips of pattern paper 1 1/8 inch x 4 1/8 inch, the paper can either match the card base or contrast with the card base
4.  4 1/4 x 4/14 square of white cardstock for inside of card.
5.  scorer
6.  adhesive
7.  sentiment stamp for inside

Tuesday, October 23rd Meeting

Tuesday, October 23rd is our next meeting at Seabreeze Rec Center at 6:30 PM.

Carolyn Taylor will teach us how to print sideways on an address label.

 You will need to bring:

 Black Marker
Scissors
Adhesive
Ticket punch

 Everything else will be provided.

At our Oct 9th meeting, we discussed the possibility of a day-long bus trip to visit stamping stores and lunch out. Ginny is looking into whether financially this is feasible. If so, we will then form a committee to organize the trip. We know we cannot fill a bus, so an invitation would be extended to other clubs in The Villages. The trip would most likely be during Jan or Feb.

See you Tuesday.

Tuesday, October 9th Meeting

Our next meeting is October 9th at 6:30 PM at Seabreeze Rec Center.

We will be making the Quilted Christmas Balls.  Below is a list of items needed -- most of you already have this list and have hopefully gotten a head start on the preparation.

 Quilted Christmas Balls

30 2 ½” squares of two coordinating materials for a total of 60 squares.  You probably won’t use all 60 squares, but I would rather you have too many, than too few.  The fabrics you choose should be a small print.  Any fabric with bling shows off very well.  They don’t have to be Christmas prints. Bring some of your scraps as you will need two small pieces to start your ball.  A box of Satin Pins -- you will use almost the entire box, so do not plan on sharing your pins.  Walmart is the cheapest place to buy them, but they also have them at Joann’s.

3” Styrofoam Ball.  They come in a package of 6, so you may want to share with 2 or 3 others.

Thimble (if you have one)
Hat Pin
Scissors to cut fabric and ribbon
Ribbon.  ½” or 7/8” wide.  You will need enough to wrap around the finished ball, plus enough to wrap around your palm about 5 times (for your bow) and an additional amount for the loop so you can hang on your tree.  I like the look of ½” ribbon but very difficult to cover all your pins – The 7/8” is much easier.  Even ¾ of an inch would work.

You might like to add an additional bow of very narrow ribbon as well.  Color can be the same or a coordinating shade.

Satin ribbon is much easier to use to make a bow.  Grosgrain is really beautiful but more difficult to make loops because of the weight of the ribbon.  I have used both and am happy with both.

Kids Against Hunger Villages Food Packaging Event

Received this from Ginny. You can be thinking about it and we can discuss at next meeting. Joyce

The first Kids Against Hunger Villages Food Packaging Event is scheduled for Saturday, October 13, 2012 from 10AM to 2PM at the American Legion Post 347 on Rolling Acres Road. This event is sponsored by Deliver The Difference/Kids Against Hunger and we could really use the help of your club. The goal is to raise $12,500 and package 50,000 meals. In order to accomplish this we need support from local organizations, businesses, churches and individuals.
Deliver The Difference/Kids Against Hunger is a non-profit 501C3 humanitarian food aid organization that packages a highly nutritious rice based casserole that is provided to children in need. The 50,000 meals packaged at The Villages on October 13th will be distributed to hungry children and families in the tri-county area of Lake, Marion and Sumter counties. The nutrient rich formula was designed by food scientists and consists of rice, soy protein, 6 dehydrated vegetables, and 21 vitamins and minerals with a vegetarian chicken flavoring. Each meal provides the key nutrients a hungry child needs to survive. One cup will feed a starving child for a day. The cost of each meal is 25 cents. Did you know that in Lake County alone there are over 2900 homeless children?
Please consider having your organization be a part of this first Villages Kids Against Hunger Food Packaging Event by hosting a fundraiser, making a donation or volunteering to be on the committee. On October 13th we will need 300 volunteers to give two hours of their time to help package the 50,000 meals. Registration is being done online beginning September 15th, 2012 at http://www.deliverthedifference.org/.
If you have any questions or I can give you and your organization any additional information, please contact me at 352-751-7329 or tsshield@yahoo.com. We would greatly appreciate any help your group could give.
Sincerely,
Suzanne Shield
