Nancy Wick Update

First, I want to tell you about my visit with Nancy yesterday.  Carrie went with me.  When we got there we found Nancy sitting outside in her wheelchair with Wick and Audrey.  What a blessing to see her more upright.  She even held her head up and moved it around once.  I thought she seemed improved from Monday.  More in control of her emotions and fears.  We stayed with her while Wick and Audrey left to take care of Biscuit and run some errands.  They were gone about 3-1/2 hours.  She really didn't get worried and anxious until they'd been gone about 2-1/2 to 3 hours.  So that was much better than on Monday.  I kept telling her how much better she was doing.

Anyway, now to my request.  Wick told me that they had cleaned out a lot of her art supplies and found several frames from Michaels still in the packaging.  He returned them but without a receipt they only gave him store credit.  So he has a gift card for over $180.  He would like to turn it into cash.  Could you mention this at Sea Breeze on Tuesday night to see if anyone would like to help them by buying it from Wick?  He said he would take $150 for it.  I don't buy much from Michael's but I know others do.  That's a large amount so maybe a few would be willing to go together to buy it from Wick and plan a group shopping trip.  I told Wick I would try to find someone to buy it.  But I won't be there on Tuesday night so I thought maybe you wouldn't mind asking everyone about it.

Thanks!

Carol

Tuesday, June 11 Meeting

Our next meeting is Tuesday, June 11th, at the Sea Breeze Rec Center at 6:30 PM.

LET'S PLAY DRESS UP!

I'll be bringing my Stampin' Up! Dress Up Framelits for everyone to play with on Tuesday night.  These are so much fun.  Just like playing paper dolls when you were a little girl.  The framelits set consists of a dress form and two styles of dresses.  However with just a little imagination papercrafters have come up with dozens of different styles.   I'll have some samples to share with you but once you get started I promise you will come up with all kinds of ideas on your own.

There will be two sets of framelits and two Big Shots to use.  You will need to bring the following:
  • Card stock for your card bases
  • Black or gray card stock for the dress form
  • Patterned and solid papers for your dresses
  • Embellishments such as pearls, rhinestones, flowers, ribbons, etc. to decorate your dresses
I'll be bringing some of my stash of retired designer papers that you can use.  And whatever extra embellishments that I have laying around.

These are also really cute as framed art.

Please join us on Tuesday night and become a fashion designer!  If you have any questions before Tuesday, please feel free to contact me.

She will provide CD, rubber cement and clock movements.
The cost of the class will be $5.00.

Hope to see you all there!  Great Father's Day gift!

Contact Paper Info

Hi ladies,

After our meeting last evening, I checked both the rolls of contact that I purchased at Staples and sure enough, one of them does not stick well.  The other is so-so.  Also as Ginny noted,  the one she purchased was not as clear and shiny and by comparison to what I use, it does seem different.

There was another lady sitting to my left last night (table in front of where you were
Ginny... facing you) and she told me that she got a roll, different from mine, from Staples.  She said it was bigger, more on the roll, clearer/shiny and she used it on a card and it worked well.  Hers was $9.99 and Staples ordered it for her and had it sent to the local store for her to pick up.  Sorry I don't know her name, but you might want to ask at the next meeting or send out a note to the members to
A. let them know that Staples has two types and the more expensive one is better quality
B. let them know that the $2.99 roll  has not produced acceptable results.

Maybe people would be willing to share a roll of the more expensive one, seeing it has more on it.  I think it is a product used more for laminating.  Will go on their site and see if I can find it.

Wendy

Tuesday - April 9 Meeting

Our next meeting will be Tuesday, April 9th, 6:30 PM at Seabreeze Rec Center.

We will be working on Operation Write Home cards.  Please bring all of the material you will need for this project especially card stock and envelopes.  We have quite a bit of designer paper that will be available for your use.  You will also have access to Loan Library stamps.  You may also bring your own if you are working on a specific design.

 *********************************************************

Directly below is a message from Jan Edmondson:

Janet and I have 85 cards ready for mailing for Operation Write Home, however we would like to wait and mail them to meet the April 30 deadline and fill the box completely.  Would you please put an e-mail out to the club that we need July 4th cards and Any Hero cards this month and please bring them on or before the April 30 deadline.  I have attached a file for members so they will know the deadlines ahead of time.

ITEMS DISCUSSED AT THE LAST MEETING:

The club purchased 3 stamps for men's cards and Scorepal at Marion Market.

Jan Edmondson took on the Operation Write Home  project.  She will be in charge of receiving any cards that we make and mailing them.  The Treasury will pay for all shipping costs.  Thanks, big time, for stepping forward Jan.  I personally am very grateful!

 See you Tuesday!  Joyce Stewart

TUESDAY, MARCH 26 MEETING

Wendy Kool will be presenting two projects. ___________________________________________________________________________________________

Materials for class of Tuesday, March 26th - 6:30 PM - Seabreeze

1. Main Card: This class will be highlighting simple and elegant all occasion cards, using embossing folders in various ways. It also incorporates the use of clear, self adhesive laminate (Mac-tac).

Base card/envelope will be provided as well as the kit required for the main card.

For the main card you will need: Pop dots, glue, tape runner for assembling layers, scissors.

2. For the second part of the class there will be a variety of newly released embossing folders available for use, along with a demo of a triple layered embossing technique, also producing a simple and elegant all purpose card.

Bring along a camera if you wish as there will be many sample cards.

For the triple layered card, bring the following pieces of White or Cream card stock and you will be able to use one of the new folders to prepare the top for a future card:

1 @ 2.5 " x 4 "

1 @ 3.5 " x 5 "

1 @ 4.5 " x 6 "

(OR MULTIPLES OF THE ABOVE IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO MAKE MORE THAN ONE!) A repositional glue pen is handy for this one. One will be available if you do not have one.

3. Other opportunities: There will be a couple of cute, small stamps that you may wish to use; one being a small butterfly used on the main card project... I call it my all purpose "butterfly kiss" used often for finishing off simple cards. If you would like to make a supply of these bring some watercolor paper squares 3" x 3" for stamping. I will demo my coloring style using watercolor pencils and iridescent medium.

4. If you would like to stamp images (that will be available) on cardstock and run through the various embossing folders (as will be shown on the sample card), bring along a supply of cardstock (light colors) cut to 5" X 7" and can be trimmed later to your preferred card size.

nb. - for anyone who cannot attend this class... I will bring the samples to the April 9th class as well.

ITEMS DISCUSSED AT THE LAST MEETING:

Our 28 passenger Lamers bus (for Stampfest in Orlando) will be $624.00. The contract has been signed and a deposit of $100 has been made.

It was decided that we would not subsidize, from the treasury, the individuals from the club that are going to Stampfest. We will have $300 to spend (for the club) on single stamps and punches.

As of 3/12 we had $720.53 in our Treasury.

There will be a nominating committee selected for a new slate of officers to be in place 1/1/14. We ask that new faces step forward and give others, that have been serving, a chance to recharge. All organizations benefit from the participation of all its members.

 See you Tuesday.

TUESDAY, MARCH 12TH MEETING

Tuesday, the 12th is our next meeting at 6:30 PM at Seabreeze Rec Center.

Ginny and I will be doing punch art cards.

I will be doing an Easter Bunny card using various punches. The items you will need to bring are:

White card base
green designer paper 4" X 2 1/2"
Pink or blue designer paper 4" X 2 3/4"
small print green, pink or blue works well as this is the background for your bunny.
Pink stamp pad with Q-tips or small sponge
4 1/2 " of coordinating ribbon that will separate your pink/blue from the green.

For Ginny's card, bring card base. She is suppling all other supplies.

We are both providing the punched pieces you will need to build your card.

Items you will need for both cards:

 tweezers
double sided tape
glue (there are several pieces too small to use tape)
etc etc etc

We will also be working on Operation Write Home cards. Please bring all the supplies that you will need to produce at least two cards (including envelopes) of any design that you choose. If everyone completes at least two (2) cards, that will give us a good head start on this project. If you can provide more than that, terrific!

If you have any questions as to what is acceptable, please call or email me.

 See you Tuesday,

Joyce Stewart

TUESDAY, JANUARY 22ND MEETING

Tuesday, Jan 22nd is our next meeting at 6:30 PM at Seabreeze Rec Center.

We will be making a Double Heart Easel card with Carol Seitz. She has kits all made up but if you want to make more than one card the supplies you will need are:

2 sheets red cardstock
1/4 sheet black cardstock
5" x 5" piece of designer printed paper (I used SU First Edition)
3" x 3" piece of vanilla cardstock
Valentine saying between 2" and 2-1/2" wide
red ink
small scrap of silver glimmer paper (I will have extra)
small ribbon flower or other embellishment
pop-ups (I used SU stampin' dimensionals)
heart shaped dies (I used SU Hearts Collection Framelits)
rhinestone or button just under 1/2" wide

I will bring my framelits and Big Shot. If anyone else has the SU framelits and can bring them they would be great. We could play around with the size of other heart dies also. I will also bring my small heart punch, 1/2" circle punch, and a scoring board.

Here are the sizes of the hearts I used. This is the widest and tallest measurement.

5-1/4 x 4-3/4 (this one is scalloped)
4-1/4 x 3-3/4
3-3/8 x 3-1/8
2-1/2 x 2-1/4
1-3/4 x 1-5/8
heart punch 5/8 x 5/8

Everyone can use my Big Shot and framelits but it will just mean a lot of sharing.

Carol has been suffering with a bad back so I would ask that you please bring all the supplies you would need to make cards using the stamps from our Loan Library in case she needs to cancel at the last moment. Be sure to bring your own stamp pad(s).

 ITEMS DISCUSSED AT 1/9/13 MEETING:

Dues for 2013 are payable this month. $10.00 for the year.

A discussion and decision was made that we would like to participate in Operation Right Home in providing cards for our soldiers to send home. Joyce will do some research and share at next meeting.

We also decided that there should be two projects at each meeting. One person can do two projects or there can be two different individuals.

April 9th is still open for someone to volunteer to teach a class. Feb 12th will be a Heart theme and volunteers are Kathy Klein and Katie Robertson.

March 12th will be Punch Art by Ginny Radtke and Joyce Stewart.

We have purchased a Cuttlebug so will happily accept donations of embossing folders. We also need punches and edge punches.

We are still working on a bus trip in June to Orlando to Stampfest.

Ginny will be ordering Tombo tape replacements. Email her if you want refills.

A decision was made that we will purchase about $100 worth of stamps at 1/24 Paradise bus trip. Katie, Janet, Shirley, Ginny and Joyce will be going.

Also made decision that we would purchase two (2) new stamp sets a month.

We are going to have two tables at Market of Marion in February -- we will be selling some of our older stamps from Loan Library. Florence, Shirley and Joyce will be manning the tables.

See you Tuesday.
